How a start-up of 3 engineers working from a Starbucks can propose a more complete solution than a IBM or a Sun


No it's not only about better coffee...

One of the first thing I've learned from my business masters about 10 years ago is the KISS theory: "Keep It Stupid and Simple".

Simplicity is the only way to drive a business in the long-term. That's why some firms manage to do much more with LESS...

The startups against the big boats... The Davids vs Goliaths of our age in a way... or how a start-up of 3 engineers working from a Starbucks can propose more complete and suitable solutions to their customers than a IBM or a Sun Microsystems. This has always amazed me... (I know simplicity is only one factor out of many)...

Why companies that will propose customer-oriented, connected/cross-screen services will definitively win big...


During the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, I took a break between meetings and went to see how our future will look like...

One of my big takeaways from this CES edition was how the mobile interface (the most personal screen of your life I would say) is now leveraged to access new services in a user friendly way...

The touch-screen revolution and the mobile application development democratization (thanks to Apple via his versatile iPhone SDK and application roll-out system, the AppStore) have been the catalyzers of this new connected evolution that will give birth to new end-user oriented use cases that may change our life...

These past 5 years have been about usage and not technology which is a good thing in itself... for instance with the emergence of the notebooks (new usage), the market place has shown the world the race after the CPU power is over... this is bad news for the chip vendors that need to justify their prices, but this is wonderful news for the users, and a wake-up call for the big players out there...

During the show, OnStar revealed a mobile application for the Chevrolet Volt, the first mobile app specialized for an electric vehicle. Below is a video demonstration of how the app works.



Creative and smart companies that will propose customer-oriented, connected/cross-screen services will definitively win big...
